On your computer
Your own sounds and scripts
LucidDream on your computer is where you gather sounds you like, cut each to the part you want, add scripts for your nights, and send the whole collection to the app on your phone. It runs in your browser. There is nothing to install and no account.
It is being tried by testers and does not have a public address yet. If you are a tester, use the address you were given.
What you can do with it
- Start a collection. A collection is a set of sounds and scripts that go to your phone together: “My night sounds”, for instance. The first time, LucidDream asks where to keep your collections: a folder you choose on your computer, or inside the browser.
- Add sounds. From a file you have, audio or video: MP3, M4A, WAV, MP4 and most others. From what a browser tab is playing: play it and record the stretch you want. Or from the microphone: your own voice, an instrument, the room.
- Cut each to the part you want. You see the sound’s shape, drag two edges, choose how softly it starts and ends, and listen to exactly what will be kept. If a sound starts abruptly or is bright enough to wake you, LucidDream says so while you can still change it.
- Add scripts. A script says what plays through the night and when. You do not have to write one: copy the instructions LucidDream gives you into the chatbot you already use, say what you want your night to be like, and paste its answer back. How that works.
- Send it to your phone. Press Send to phone and a code appears. On the phone, open the Library, choose Import extension, then Receive from computer, and type the code. Your sounds and scripts arrive in the Library, ready to choose for tonight.
Good to know
The same version on both. The computer and the phone must run the same version of LucidDream. If they differ, the phone says which is which, and nothing is imported until they match.
Without the code. You can save the collection as
one file instead, with a name ending in
.luciddream.zip, and get it to your phone any way you
like: a cloud drive, an e-mail to yourself, AirDrop, Quick Share,
a cable. On the phone: Library, Import extension, Open a package
file.
Sounds from a video site. LucidDream downloads nothing from other sites. To take a sound from something that plays in your browser, record the tab while it plays: the browser asks which tab, and you must tick “Also share tab audio”. Recording a tab works in Chrome and Edge on a computer. Use sounds you made or have the right to use.
Long files. A file up to twenty minutes long is shown whole. A longer one is played, you mark where the part you want starts and ends, and that part is taken while it plays. A sound itself can be up to five minutes; the phone softens sounds of up to a minute and fades longer ones.
Which browser. Chrome and Edge on a computer can keep your collections in a folder you choose, as ordinary files you can back up. Other browsers keep them inside the browser, where they are lost if its site data is cleared.
What stays on your computer, and what does not
Your sounds are opened, cut and stored on your own computer. Nothing you add leaves it until you send a collection to your phone.
When you press Send to phone, the collection is uploaded to LucidDream’s transfer service, where it waits for your phone for up to two hours and is then deleted. Anyone you give the code to can fetch it in that time. You can stop sharing at any moment, and you can avoid the service entirely by saving a package file instead.
What you tell a chatbot goes to the company that runs that chatbot, not to LucidDream. More about privacy.
