Scripts

Let an assistant write your script

A script tells LucidDream what to play through the night and when. You can have the chatbot you already use write one for you: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or another. You say what you want in your own words; LucidDream checks what comes back and explains it to you before it is ever used.

With LucidDream on your computer

  1. Open your collection and choose Add a script, then Copy instructions for your assistant. They include the names of your own sounds.
  2. Paste them into your chatbot and tell it what you want your night to be like. It will ask a few questions and then write a script.
  3. Copy its answer and paste it into LucidDream. If the script is ready, you see what it does in plain words and when its sounds will play. If something is wrong, choose Copy this problem for your assistant, paste that into the same chat, and paste the corrected script back.
  4. Send the collection to your phone. More about LucidDream on your computer.

With the phone alone

  1. Give your chatbot these two addresses and ask it to read both:
    luciddream.countinglight.com/assistants/instructions.txt
    luciddream.countinglight.com/assistants/script-language.txt
If it cannot open addresses, open each yourself, copy all of it, and paste it into the chat.
  2. Tell it which sounds you have. The sounds built into the app are listed in the second text; for your own, give their names exactly as the Library shows them.
  3. Say what you want your night to be like, and let it write the script.
  4. Save its answer as a file whose name ends in .yaml, and in the app choose Library, Import new script, Import from file. The app checks the script as it is added and says what is wrong if it cannot use it.

What to expect

LucidDream is the judge. Whatever an assistant writes is checked by the same code that runs your night. A script that is not right is refused with a reason, never run wrongly. A script cannot do anything but play sounds and wait.

Assistants differ. A good one gets it right the first time; a weaker one may need a correction or two. The two texts are written to make that rare.

Still check it at your bedside. The app tells you when a sound may be sharp enough to wake you, but only a listen where you sleep settles how loud is right.

Your conversation is yours. What you tell a chatbot about your sleep goes to the company that runs it, not to LucidDream. LucidDream calls no chatbot itself and needs no account for this.

The texts are also a complete reference for anyone who wants to write a script by hand, next to the script format.
